Reduction of magnetic noise limits of orthogonal fluxgate sensor

چکیده

We have further lowered the white noise of an orthogonal fluxgate to about 0.3 pT/√Hz @ 8 Hz. So far, this is lowest reported for a magnetometer. The reduction was achieved by introducing JFET input stage, embedded directly sensor head, allowing high common-mode rejection and negligible loading resonant circuit. origin investigated correlation measurements we concluded that, at least in region, observe magnetic sensor, with 0.1 contribution electronics. were finally able obtain floor below 1 Hz also feedback-compensated closed-loop. Closed-loop operation allows higher magnetometer stability Earth’s field without deteriorating its performance.

Suppression of magnetic noise in the fundamental-mode orthogonal fluxgate

A new important advantage has been discovered for the fundamental-mode operation of the orthogonal fluxgate employing an amorphous wire. It has been found that a great enough dc bias practically completely suppresses the magnetic noise generated in the fluxgate core by the ac-bias field; the fluxgate resolution becomes limited only by the excess electric noise in the ac-bias current. As a resul...

A 3-Axis Miniature Magnetic Sensor Based on a Planar Fluxgate Magnetometer with an Orthogonal Fluxguide

A new class of tri-axial miniature magnetometer consisting of a planar fluxgate structure with an orthogonal ferromagnetic fluxguide centrally situated over the magnetic cores is presented. The magnetic sensor possesses a cruciform ferromagnetic core placed diagonally upon the square excitation coil under which two pairs of pick-up coils for in-plane field detection are allocated. Effective pri...

Noise investigation of the orthogonal fluxgate employing alternating direct current bias

Alternating dc bias enables eliminating offset in orthogonal fluxgates operated in fundamental mode. However, the alternating dc bias reversals increase the fluxgate magnetic noise. It is shown in this work that the excess magnetic noise is related to the dynamics of the magnetic domains in the fluxgate core. The alternating dc bias reverses the fluxgate core magnetization causing nucleating do...
